Enugu Governor, Peter Mbah To Dump PDP For APC Tuesday

ENUGU State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, is set to formally defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in a move that could significantly alter the political landscape of the South-East.

    BORNO PATRIOTS

News Point Nigeria reports that the much-anticipated defection, scheduled to take place in Enugu, is expected to attract top APC chieftains, including the National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Deputy National Chairman (South), Hon. Emma Eneukwu, as well as governors, ministers, and other senior party figures.

Governor Mbah, who was elected under the platform of the PDP in 2023, is reportedly joining the APC along with a number of elected national and state legislators, members of his cabinet, and top political leaders across Enugu’s 17 local government areas.

Confirming the development on Friday, the newly inaugurated Chairman of the Enugu State APC Caretaker Committee, Dr. Ben Nwoye, told News point Nigeria in an interview in Abuja that the defection would mark “a new dawn” in the state’s political history.

“Yes, I can confirm that His Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah, will be officially received into the APC on Tuesday, October 14, in Enugu. It’s a major realignment that will reposition the party not only in the state but across the South-East,” Dr. Nwoye stated.

The event, he said, would also witness the mass defection of commissioners, special advisers, local government chairmen, and former PDP stakeholders who have been working closely with the governor.

The APC National Working Committee (NWC) had earlier in the week dissolved the Enugu State Working Committee (SWC) and inaugurated a seven-member caretaker committee led by Nwoye to oversee the party’s affairs and coordinate preparations for Mbah’s entry.

During the inauguration ceremony in Abuja, National Chairman Prof. Yilwatda reaffirmed the APC’s determination to consolidate its presence in the South-East, describing the upcoming defection as “a major step toward political inclusion and regional balance.”

“Governor Mbah’s decision reflects the widening acceptance of the APC in the South-East. Our goal is to build bridges of unity and ensure that every zone feels represented in the national project,” Yilwatda said.

Deputy National Chairman (South), Hon. Emma Eneukwu, also hailed the move as a validation of the APC’s growing influence in the region, noting that Enugu’s inclusion in the party’s expanding fold would boost its electoral prospects in future elections.

The governor, who has faced internal wrangling within the PDP since his election, is also said to be seeking a more stable political base as his administration pushes ahead with its ambitious development agenda, including infrastructure renewal, digital economy expansion, and youth employment initiatives.

“This is about governance, not just politics,” a source close to the governor told News Point Nigeria. “Dr. Mbah believes joining the APC will help him deliver more effectively for the people of Enugu.”
