THE Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has relieved the State Head of Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, of his appointment with immediate effect in what officials described as part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening the state civil service.
The decision was announced on Tuesday evening in a statement issued by the Director-General, Media and Publicity at Government House, Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, the move forms part of the administration’s broader effort to reposition the Kano State civil service for improved efficiency, discipline, and better service delivery across government institutions.
Although no specific reason was cited for the removal, the government said the action aligns with the current administration’s commitment to strengthening the institutional capacity of the civil service and ensuring optimal performance in the execution of government policies and programmes.
Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to the outgoing Head of Service for his service to the state, acknowledging his contributions during his tenure.
The governor said the government recognizes the dedication and commitment Musa demonstrated while serving in the position and wished him well in his future endeavours.
“We wish him the best in his future endeavours and pray for his continued success in all aspects of life,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.
Following the development, Governor Yusuf directed that Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, who currently serves as the Permanent Secretary in charge of Administration and General Services at the Cabinet Office, should assume the role of Acting Head of Service.
Her appointment in an acting capacity will remain in place pending the appointment of a substantive Head of Service for the state.
The governor also instructed the outgoing Head of Service to hand over the affairs of the office to the Acting Head of Service not later than Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
