A HIGH-POWERED delegation of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has arrived in Kano State ahead of the anticipated defection of former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, into the party.
News Point Nigeria reports that the delegation, which landed on Monday at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, includes prominent political figures such as former Senate President and ADC National Chairman David Mark, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, Senator Dino Melaye, and former APC National Chairman John Odigie-Oyegun, Rauf Aregbesola, Peter Obi among others.
They were received by the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, as political activities intensify ahead of what is shaping up to be a major realignment in the state’s political landscape.
Kwankwaso is expected to formally join the ADC alongside key allies, including Gwarzo, Senator Rufa’i Sani Hanga, and the Kano State Chairman of the NNPP, Hashim Dungurawa.
The development follows Kwankwaso’s resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), announced on Sunday. In a statement, he cited the need for political realignment as a driving factor behind his decision.
“I wish to formally announce my resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party with immediate effect,” Kwankwaso stated.
Describing the move as a difficult but necessary decision, the former governor acknowledged his long-standing association with the party.
“As a committed and bona fide member of the party, this was not an easy decision to make. However, considering the current trajectory of the nation’s political landscape, which calls for strategic realignment, I have found it necessary to identify with another political platform that offers the best opportunity to effectively change the nation,” he added.
Kwankwaso expressed appreciation to the leadership of the NNPP, including the National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, as well as other party organs for their support during his time in the party.
He also extended gratitude to members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and his supporters, acknowledging their commitment and loyalty.
“We shall continue to collaborate and work together towards charting a better and more prosperous future for our dear nation,” he had said.
