JUST IN: Zamfara Govt Orders All NGOs To Leave State Over ‘Terrorist Activities’

THE Zamfara Government has ordered all Non-Governmental Organisations to leave the state over what it described as “illegal activities” by these establishments.

“It is further noted that the majority of these illegal NGOs have not registered with the state in line with the laid down rules and regulations of government. Some of them have also been found to be engaging in activities fueling insecurity in the state and its neighbourhood,” the state’s Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs Mamman Tsafe said in a statement made available to News Point Nigeria, Tuesday.

“Henceforth, the government orders all NGOs in the state to pack their belongings and leave the state immediately. Ministries and Departments of government have been ordered to stop any further relationships with any NGO, as punitive measures will be taken against any MDAs found having any relationships with such NGOs.

“Security agencies in the state are by this announcement directed to be vigilante to the NGOs. Security agencies are hereby directed to investigate and prosecute any NGOs operating in the state without due clearance from designated authorities. Results of such prosecutions are to be forwarded to this Ministry for records please.”

A reliable source close to the government told News Point Nigeria that, a report submitted Monday by a Special Security Committee established by Governor Matawalle in June last year fingered about 8 NGOs in the state for different offenses of ‘aiding and abetting bandits’.

According to the source, the govt will also consider making some part of the report public, so the public will truly understand that, these NGOs are truly part of the problem not the solution.

Recall in June 2021, Gov Matawalle inaugurated a special security committee during the Security council Meeeting to assess the security situation in the state and proffer solutions to identified challenges.

The meeting which is held behind closed doors was chaired by the state governor, Bello Matawalle

Journalists were bared from covering the proceedings.

Issues of security challenges in various communities, abduction of persons including travellers, levy placed on farmers and communities were the lead in the discussion.
