KANO State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle and the redeployment of senior officials in the state civil service, in a move aimed at strengthening governance and enhancing service delivery across key ministries.
The decision, announced in a statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa made available to News Point Nigeria, takes effect from Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
According to the directive, several ministries have been directly affected by the changes:
Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, has been redeployed to the Ministry of Transport.
Barr. Mustapha Nuruddeen Muhammad, Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, has been moved to the Ministry of Environment as Permanent Secretary.
The Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs, who has been acting in the Ministry of Transport, will now return to his substantive post at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.
Governor Yusuf further directed that all officials affected by the reshuffle must formally hand over to the most senior officers in their respective ministries before the close of business on Tuesday.
Explaining the rationale behind the move, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accountability, efficiency, and purposeful leadership.
He stressed that the redeployment was not punitive but designed to maximize capacity, align responsibilities, and ensure that government delivers effective results in line with its mandate to the people of Kano State.
“This realignment will allow us to better harness the talents of our commissioners and permanent secretaries, while ensuring improved coordination across ministries,” the Governor said.
Governor Yusuf also urged government officials and civil servants across the affected ministries to extend maximum cooperation to the newly redeployed officials.
He emphasized that the success of his administration’s development agenda depends on teamwork, discipline, and loyalty to the people’s mandate.
Since assuming office in May 2023, Governor Yusuf has repeatedly stressed his focus on good governance, accountability, and service delivery. His administration has embarked on reforms in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and environmental management.
This latest reshuffle, though described as “minor,” is widely seen as part of the Governor’s broader efforts to fine-tune his cabinet for greater efficiency as the administration enters a new phase.
