THE Kebbi State Government has announced the creation of a new district; Sarandosa within Maiyama Local Government Area as part of its broader administrative reforms aimed at improving local governance and traditional leadership.
The development, which was disclosed in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Garba Dutsinmari, also includes the appointment of two new district heads.
According to the statement released on Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi, Sarandosa District was carved out of the existing Maiyama District (Sarkin Kudun Maiyama) and will now serve as a separate administrative unit with its headquarters located in Sarandosa town.
The newly constituted district comprises five village areas: Gubba, Sarandosa, Acikaratu Ubandawaki, Acikaratun Dodo and Tsalibi
Alhaji Dutsinmari explained that the decision was based on the growing population and administrative demands of the area, which necessitated decentralization to ensure more efficient governance and responsive traditional leadership.
To lead the newly established district, the government has appointed Dr. Faruk Maiyama as the pioneer District Head of Sarandosa, with the traditional title of Sarkin Gabas Sarandosa.
In addition, Haliru Maiyama has been appointed as the District Head of the restructured Maiyama District, maintaining the title of Sarkin Kudun Maiyama.
The redefined Maiyama District will now oversee seven village areas: Dangaladiman Maiyama, Yariman Maiyama, Giwatazo, Kurya, Rafintofa, Zara Birni and Idiga
The Commissioner reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to bringing governance closer to the people, enhancing traditional institutions, and improving service delivery across rural communities.
