Khalifah Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN), Kano has honoured the winner of the Qur’anic recitation competition held recently in Jordan, Malama Hajara Dan Azumi Gombe for her outstanding performance.
The event which was organised by the International Institute of Qur’anic Sciences (IIQS, took place at the Alhaji Mai Deribe Theater in the university premises.
According to the University’sVice Chancellor, Professor Abdulrashid Garba, Gombe’s brilliant performance at the international competition is commendable.
Professor Garba said Hajara’s effort to clinch the laurel shows Nigeria’s abundance of talent in every aspect of human endevour.
He added that Malama Gombe has done a lot not only in projecting the good image of Nigeria, but her state Gombe and northern Nigeria in general.
The vice chancellor explained that the university is really proud of her performance, urging her to sustain the tempo while appealing to other students to emulate this feat.
He further praised her parents for playing a vital role in her remarkable achievements and pledged that the university management will continue to work hard in the promotion of Qur’anic studies so as to ensure that the institution produce many of such winners in the future.
Earlier, the coordinator of the IIQS, Barrister Habib Dan Almajiri, described Dan Azumi’s performance as well deserved considering the past record of Nigeria in the international Qur’anic recitation competition.
In their separate remarks, the winner of the competition and her father Alhaji Muhammad Dan Azumi Gombe thanked the management of KHAIRUN for deciding to organise and honour them, pointing out that the gesture is a way of encouraging and supporting parents and students.
Highlights of the event include presentation of gift, cash and group photograph.
