THE Nigerian Army has successfully rescued the wife of a retired brigadier general who was abducted from her residence in Abuja on September 1, 2026, after troops engaged members of the kidnapping syndicate in a gun battle.
News Point Nigeria reports that following the abduction, troops of the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters (AHQ) Garrison launched a coordinated pursuit operation along multiple suspected escape routes to locate the kidnappers and secure the safe release of the victim.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops advanced through the Aco Estate–Goza Community axis, where they established contact with the kidnappers.
Overwhelmed by the troops’ rapid response and superior firepower, the criminals were reported to have abandoned the victim and fled into nearby bushes, leading to her successful rescue at Angwan Sabo Village.
The troops subsequently intensified the pursuit along the Aco Estate–Angwan Sayawa axis, while additional forces were deployed to block likely escape routes and prevent the criminals from evading capture.
In a follow-up operation on September 2, 2026, troops intercepted fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate near Gaube Village in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
Two suspected kidnappers were intercepted during the operation, while troops also recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine and 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
The troops have continued clearance and tracking operations across the general area in a bid to apprehend the remaining suspects and dismantle the kidnapping network.
The Nigerian Army commended the vigilance and cooperation of residents and reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property.
The Army, in conjunction with other security agencies, said it remains resolute in sustaining aggressive, intelligence-driven and joint security operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and enhancing security across the Federal Capital Territory and its environs.
