PRESIDENT and Founder of Maryam Abacha American University (MAAUN), Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has paid a heartfelt condolence visit to the family of late former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Daura.
Professor Gwarzo, among the earliest public figures to mourn Buhari following the official announcement of his passing from a London hospital, reaffirmed his deep grief during the visit.
He prayed for Allah to grant the late leader eternal rest in Aljannah Firdaus and for strength to his family and the nation.
Speaking at the Daura residence, Gwarzo described the former President as a man of rare integrity and lifelong patriotism.
“President Muhammadu Buhari was a man of principle, a true servant of Nigeria. Whether in military uniform or in civilian leadership, his love for this country was unquestionable. His death is a personal and national loss,” the professor said.
He added that Buhari’s legacy will continue to shape Nigeria’s political and moral consciousness for generations to come.
Receiving the delegation, Yusuf Buhari, son of the late President, expressed his family’s appreciation for the gesture.
He thanked Professor Gwarzo for his comforting words, his prayers, and for standing in solidarity with the family during their time of mourning.
The visit is part of a nationwide outpouring of condolences following Buhari’s passing. Tributes have come from across Nigeria and abroad for the former military head of state and two-term civilian president, whose policies and personal discipline left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s history.
Professor Gwarzo, known for his educational philanthropy across Africa, is the founder of several universities including MAAUN in both Kano and Maradi (Niger Republic), Franco-British International University in Kaduna, and Canadian International University in Abuja.
His contributions to higher education have earned him accolades both nationally and internationally.
As Nigeria reflects on Buhari’s decades-long service, voices like Professor Gwarzo’s continue to echo the profound impact of a leader who, in life and in death, remains a symbol of dedication to country and conscience.
