THE Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has not resigned from his position, contrary to widespread reports circulating on social media.
The Minister’s Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media, Bolaji Tunji, dismissed the reports as false and misleading, describing the purported resignation letter as “fake.”
Speaking in a telephone interview with News Point Nigeria, Tunji emphasized that the minister remains fully committed to his responsibilities and is focused on delivering on the mandate of the power sector.
“The Honourable Minister of Power has not resigned. He is fully focused on his duties and continues to work towards improving Nigeria’s power sector,” Tunji stated.
He further urged individuals and platforms responsible for spreading the unverified information to desist from disseminating false claims capable of misleading the public.
The controversy followed the circulation of a purported resignation letter allegedly written by Adelabu to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and dated March 26, 2026.
In the viral document, the minister was said to have stepped down to pursue his ambition of contesting for the governorship of Oyo State.
However, the latest clarification from the minister’s office has effectively debunked the claims, reaffirming that no such resignation has taken place.
The rumours had gained traction amid recent directives from President Tinubu, who reportedly set a March 31 deadline for cabinet members with political ambitions in the upcoming election cycle to resign from their positions.
Despite the speculation, the Minister of Power remains in office, with his media team insisting that the viral letter is entirely fabricated.
