A POPULAR restaurant owner in Kasuwan-Garba town, Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State, has been burnt alive by an angry mob following allegations of blasphemy.
News Point Nigeria gathered that the victim, widely identified simply as Amaye, was said to have made offensive comments during a casual exchange with a customer at her restaurant.
According to witnesses, the customer had jokingly proposed marriage to her, referencing the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Amaye allegedly responded in a manner offensive and disrespectful to the Islamic faith.
Alarmed by her remarks, locals dragged the woman to the palace of the District Head of Kasuwan-Garba. The traditional ruler subsequently handed her over to security operatives for proper investigation.
However, before due process could take its course, an enraged mob overpowered the security personnel, seized Amaye, lynched her, and set her ablaze.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Minna on Saturday.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said the tragic event occurred on August 30, 2025, at about 2:00 pm.
“Information was received that one Amaye, a female resident of Kasuwan-Garba in Mariga LGA, allegedly made some utterances considered offensive to the Islamic faith.
“Unfortunately, it led to a mob attack, and the woman was set ablaze before the reinforcement of security teams could arrive at the scene,” Abiodun stated.
He added that normalcy has since been restored in the area, but condemned the actions of the mob in the strongest terms.
“The Niger State Police Command frowns at this act of jungle justice and urges members of the public to remain calm, avoid taking the law into their own hands, and allow security agencies to handle sensitive matters in line with the provisions of the law,” he emphasized.
