MORGAN State University in the United States and the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) organized a virtual event to honor the legacy of Hajiya (Dr.) Maryam Sani Abacha on her 79th birthday.
According to the MAAUN website, the celebration, held on March 8, 2026, highlighted her dedication to service, education, and women’s empowerment across Africa.
The event drew notable scholars, community leaders, and students worldwide, all praising her impact on health, education, and social justice initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa.
The panelists included Dr. Vivian Adeyemi, Dr. Hauwa Wambai Aminu, Ms. Oluwatobi Oni-Olusola, Dr. Habib Awais, Prof. Ahmed Maigari Ibrahim, Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Haruna, Dr. Zahra Adam, and Prof. Ganiyat Adesina-Uthman.
Under the theme “Women, Intellectual Transformation and Development,” the discussion focused on her efforts to improve access to education and healthcare for women and marginalized communities.
Moderated by Prof. Hakeem , Morgan State University, the panel discussion centered on her legacy as a champion for women’s rights.
Panelists shared stories of her advocacy, mentorship, and dedication to service, emphasizing that her example continues to inspire young women to assume leadership roles.
They also highlighted her resilience and selfless nature, recognizing her work in social justice, gender equality, and community health as pivotal to her enduring influence.
