A MIDNIGHT tragedy struck Karauka area of Zaria city on Wednesday when a mud wall collapsed on a family, killing a mother and three of her children in their sleep.
News Point Nigeria reports that the victims have been identified as Mallama Habiba Nuhu, her two daughters, Hauwa’u Nuhu and Aina’u Nuhu, and her grandson, Za’uma.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened between 3:30am and 4:00am, after ceaseless rainfall weakened a neighbour’s mud wall, causing it to cave in on the victims’ room.
A relative of the deceased, Mallam Ahmed Ibrahim, narrated the harrowing scene, explaining that Mallam Nuhu Dogara, husband to Habiba and father to the children was pulled out alive from the rubble and rushed to a nearby hospital.
“He was later discharged shortly before the funeral prayer of the deceased,” Ibrahim disclosed, adding that the collapse was directly caused by heavy rains that have pounded Zaria in recent days.
The victims reportedly died instantly, as they were buried under heavy debris.
While residents rushed to recover the bodies, the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) was yet to receive an official incident report at the time of filing this story.
Bello Garba, Zone 1 Coordinator of SEMA, confirmed to reporters: “I was not officially informed, but I will follow up for immediate assessment.”
Residents described the late Habiba Nuhu as a devoted mother and community member, noting that her sudden passing with her children has left a deep emotional wound.
