THE Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has congratulated Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, on their historic achievement of winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship, their fifth consecutive title.
Musawa, who witnessed the thrilling final live in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, alongside the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, and the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, described the team’s 78-64 victory over Mali as a triumph of resilience, discipline, and national pride.
“I am thrilled to see the D’Tigress bring home the Afrobasket trophy for a record-breaking fifth consecutive time!” Musawa said. “Their victory is a testament to the power of determination, teamwork, and Nigerian excellence.”
She commended the players, coaches, and technical staff for what she called an “exceptional performance,” emphasizing that the win was more than just a sporting milestone, it was a cultural statement that affirms Nigeria’s strength and unity on the continental stage.
According to the minister, the D’Tigress’ feat stands as a source of pride for the nation and a powerful motivation for young female athletes across the country.
“Their success will undoubtedly inspire a new generation of Nigerian sports enthusiasts, especially young women, to reach for greatness,” she added.
Minister Musawa further disclosed that the team will be hosted and honoured by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in recognition of their achievement.
The back-to-back wins make Nigeria the most dominant team in modern African women’s basketball history, further establishing D’Tigress as a continental powerhouse.
