SIGNS of reconciliation are emerging in the Senate as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) has formally invited Senate President Godswill Akpabio to a major constituency project commissioning event scheduled for Sunday in Ihima, Kogi State.
The invitation, personally signed by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and made available to News Point Nigeria, was read out during plenary on Wednesday by the Senate President.
The event forms part of activities to mark the lawmaker’s second anniversary in the Senate and will include the unveiling of multiple completed constituency projects across Kogi Central.
In the letter, Akpoti-Uduaghan wrote: “In marking my second-year anniversary as serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I wish to invite fellow Distinguished Senators to join me for projects commissioning in Kogi State.”
She listed her residence at Plot 101, Jimoh Akpoti Street, Ihima, Okene as the meeting point, advising colleagues traveling by air to land at Obajana Airstrip before connecting by road.
Akpabio acknowledged the invitation publicly and offered warm regards: “Congratulations in advance,” the Senate President added during plenary
The cordial exchange marks a significant shift following a turbulent period in the Senate earlier in the year.
A heated disagreement over seat reallocation during plenary in February triggered a confrontation that eventually led to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s six-month suspension on March 6.
Following her reinstatement and return on September 24, the outspoken senator has made gradual efforts toward rebuilding legislative relations, including participating in sponsored bills and offering contributions that received acknowledgement from the presiding officer.
The senator is expected to unveil projects across sectors including: Rural electrification, water supply installations and healthcare and educational facilities.
