THE National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has dismissed report by this newspaper that the Department of State Services (DSS)had raided its Abuja headquarters and arrested the Statistician-General, Semiu Adeyemi Adeniran on Thursday.
This was contained in a statement by the Director, Communications and Public Relation of the Burea, Mr Ichedi Sunday Joel, made available to this newspaper shortly after the publication.
According to him, There was no invasion of the Bureau, and the Statistician General is currently in the Office at the moment carrying on with his routine activities.
The statement read in full: “The attention of the National Bureau of Statistics () has been drawn to an online news item published by Newspoint Nigeria where it stated that the Headquarters of the Bureau was invaded by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), arrested the Statistician-General of Federation and made away with Computer Systems.
The Bureau wishes to state categorically that this is completely false, and nothing of such happened. There was no invasion of the Bureau, and the Statistician General is currently in the Office at the moment carrying on with his routine activities.
The public is therefore advised to kindly disregard such information.
Also, a source in the DSS confirmed to News Point Nigeria that there was no such arrest and raid at the Bureau office.
The source said, “It’s not true, there was no such arrest and raid at the Bureau by the DSS. The story is not true and this medium should have cross-checked before publication”.
This newspaper had earlier reported that operatives of the Department of the State Service, DSS, had arrested the Statistician-General of the federation and Chief Executive Officer of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Semiu Adeyemi Adeniran in his office.
