New Naira Notes: CBN Takes Campaign To Kano Traders

THE Central Bank of Nigeria CBN has called on traders and business communities in Kano to ensure that they meet the deadline of 31st January for changing their old naira notes to the new redesigned notes.

The Director Currency Operations of the Apex Bank, Mr Ahmed Umar, made the call during a sensitization campaign for Traders at Dawanau International Grain Market Kano.

Represented by Shamsuddeen Zubair, the director said the redesign of the naira note was aimed at addressing corruption, inflation as well as boosting the nations economy.

The Director Currency operations cautioned traders to beware of fraudsters, saying some unpatriotic citizens have already began faking the redesigned New Naira Note.

”The redesigned Naira Note has security measure that will differentiate it from the faked ones, so we should be on the watch out.”

Controller CBN Kano office, Umar Ibrahim Biu urged the traders to open an E-wallet Account, with the aim of easing money transaction in day to day businesses.

He appealed to the traders and business community to embrace the E-Naira mode of transaction, adding that it is the safest way of money transactions.

Deputy Chairman of Dawanau International Grains Market, Alhaji Baba Wawo said one of the major challenge was lack of awareness on the part of local farmers ,especially in the aspect of opening a bank account.

He noted that lack of adequate telecommunication services in remote areas was also part of their major challenges.

Highlight of the program was the training of Traders on how to open E -wallet accounts and CBN officials clarify areas burdering on mode of operation.
