THE Niger State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of nine bodies along the Wawa-Lumma Road in Borgu Local Government Area of the state, with the victims suspected to have been killed by bandits while travelling on the route.
News Point Nigeria reports that the grim discovery came just days after security agencies rescued 308 persons abducted in separate attacks across Kwara and Niger states, highlighting the continuing security challenges confronting parts of the two neighbouring states.
The spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Minna that a combined team of police and military personnel was dispatched to evacuate the bodies after receiving information about the incident on Tuesday.
According to him, police and military tactical teams were immediately mobilised to the scene, where the bodies were recovered.
Abiodun said clearance operations had also been intensified in the area to eliminate any security threat and further secure the route.

The development came days after security agencies rescued 308 persons who had been abducted in separate attacks in Kwara and Niger states.
Of the 308 rescued victims, 163 were abducted from Woro Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, while 145 others were kidnapped in a separate attack in Niger State.
