NNPP Expels Kwankwaso’s Loyalist, Kano Chairman After Attacking Governor Yusuf Over Defection Rumours

THE New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has been plunged into fresh internal turmoil in Kano State following the sack and expulsion of the party’s State Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, by executives of Gargari Ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area.

    RAMADAN KAREEM

News Point Nigeria reports that the decision was reached during the ward’s second executive meeting, held about two weeks after the general election, where 27 ward executives unanimously signed a resolution endorsing Dungurawa’s removal.

The meeting was presided over by the Ward Chairman, Shuaibu Hassan, alongside the ward secretary, Yahaya Saidu Dungurawa.

According to the resolution sighted by this newspaper, Dungurawa was expelled over allegations of creating divisions within the party, instigating internal crises, failure to pay party dues, and making abusive and disparaging remarks against the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The ward executives described the alleged conduct as unacceptable and detrimental to the unity, image, and progress of the NNPP in Kano.

They said the action was taken in strict compliance with the party’s constitution, stressing the need to uphold discipline, cohesion, and respect for party leadership at all levels.

However, a senior source within the NNPP told News Point Nigeria that the sack was politically motivated, claiming it was engineered by forces loyal to the governor following Dungurawa’s repeated opposition to Governor Yusuf in defence of NNPP national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The source said tensions escalated amid speculation that Governor Yusuf is considering defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move Dungurawa openly condemned.

Dungurawa had recently launched a public attack on the governor during a political programme on Freedom Radio, ‘Kowanne Gauta’ in Kano, accusing him of betrayal.

“Any attempt to dump the NNPP in Kano is nothing but a betrayal of the Kano people who voted for the governor under Kwankwasiyya and the NNPP,” Dungurawa said during the broadcast.

“It is a breach of trust to return to a party we defeated just two years ago. Why will we go back to APC? And for those attacking me and a few others for being 100 per cent loyal to our leader, Senator Kwankwaso, they should please go on,” he added.

Dungurawa had also accused Governor Yusuf of maintaining close ties with APC leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alleging without proof that the governor had secretly met the President at the Villa while claiming to be away in London.

The governor has not issued any official statement on the alleged defection plan.

However, News Point Nigeria understands that high-level consultations are ongoing, with the governor reportedly meeting top government officials and elected representatives to brief them on his political direction and reasons for aligning with the ruling party.

Sources further revealed that some aides to the governor have been dispatched to the grassroots to engage NNPP members and prepare the party base for a possible political realignment.

“Whether this amounts to an affront on the governor’s relationship with his political mentor, Senator Kwankwaso, only time will tell,” the source said.

The Gargari Ward leadership disclosed that copies of the expulsion resolution have been forwarded to the party’s Local Government, State, and National headquarters for further action.

The resolution was also formally served on Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the NNPP national leader, as well as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, for their information.

The ward executives said the decision would serve as a deterrent to party officials who misuse their positions or act as if they are above party rules.

Despite the crisis, the executives reaffirmed their loyalty to the NNPP national leadership under Senator Kwankwaso, while also pledging continued support for Governor Yusuf.

They stressed their commitment to peace, unity, and the overall advancement of the NNPP across Kano State and beyond.
