THE Kano State Government House has taken on a new political outlook as flags of the All Progressives Congress (APC) replaced those of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), signalling the imminent return of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the ruling party.
News Point Nigeria reports that the change comes ahead of the governor’s formal reception into the APC, an event expected to take place at the Government House and already generating intense political anticipation across the state.
A visit to the Government House on Monday revealed APC flags and colours prominently displayed across the premises, marking a visible shift from the NNPP branding that had defined the complex since Yusuf assumed office.
The development has further fuelled speculation and excitement around the governor’s return to the party he was once closely associated with.
The expected defection is part of wider political realignments currently reshaping Kano State’s political landscape, with key APC leaders mobilising to consolidate party structures ahead of the event.
In a related development, the immediate past National Chairman of the APC and former Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has returned to Nigeria from London and is expected to play a leading role in receiving Governor Yusuf back into the party.
According to a statement signed by his Chief of Staff, Comrade Muhammad Garba, Ganduje arrived in Abuja at about 5:30 a.m. on Monday aboard a British Airways flight after attending the graduation ceremony of his daughter, Fatima Ganduje, at King’s College, London.
Fatima, who is married to Idris Ajimobi, son of the late former Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, earned a Master’s degree from the prestigious institution last Thursday.
The statement disclosed that Ganduje is expected to proceed to Kano later in the day to commence a series of political engagements, including activities connected to Governor Yusuf’s formal reception into the APC.
“He will also play a leading role in the activities lined up for the formal reception of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who is set to defect to the APC,” Garba said.
Also expected to play a key role is Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, who has been in Kano since Sunday. Barau was reported to have toured military camps housing troops deployed to northern Kano to intensify operations against bandits terrorising communities in the area.
Barau is expected to join Ganduje in leading critical party engagements, including the APC’s electronic membership registration exercise in the state.
According to the statement, Ganduje is scheduled to actively participate in the electronic registration of party members, a programme he reportedly initiated during his tenure as APC national chairman.
“Dr Ganduje is scheduled to actively participate in the APC electronic registration of members, a programme he personally initiated while serving as national chairman of the party,” Garba noted.
The engagements, party sources said, are part of broader efforts to strengthen the APC’s grassroots presence, ensure internal cohesion, and consolidate the ongoing political realignment in Kano State.
