AN officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been killed during the distribution of Ramadan and Sallah palliatives in Tudun Wada Local Government Area of Kano State.
News Point Nigeria reports that the tragic incident occurred on Friday during a humanitarian programme organised by the member representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa.
According to the lawmaker, the officer lost his life after suspected hoodlums allegedly attempted to disrupt the distribution exercise meant to provide relief materials to residents observing the Ramadan fast and preparing for the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
In a statement sent to this newspaper confirming the development, Doguwa expressed deep shock and sadness over the incident, describing the death of the officer as a painful and unfortunate loss.
He extended his condolences to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the family of the deceased officer, and the people of Tudun Wada over the tragic development.
“May Allah grant him mercy and forgiveness,” the lawmaker said while offering prayers for the repose of the officer’s soul.
Doguwa called on relevant security agencies to immediately launch a thorough investigation into the incident with a view to identifying those responsible for the violence and bringing them to justice.
He emphasised that individuals involved in the attack must face the full weight of the law in order to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The lawmaker also warned against the circulation of false information and defamatory comments linking him directly to the incident, stressing that such claims were misleading and unacceptable.
According to him, legal steps would be taken against anyone attempting to tarnish his reputation or misrepresent the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Doguwa further noted that he personally supervised the distribution of food items and other relief materials to residents during the programme, which was organised to support vulnerable members of the community during the holy month of Ramadan.
He added that the unfortunate incident should serve as a reminder of the need for increased vigilance and improved security during large public gatherings.
The lawmaker prayed for peace in the community and urged residents to remain calm while security agencies carry out their investigation.
