THE Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Council, has concluded arrangements to host its inaugural Ramadan Lecture titled JAWABI DAGA MALAMAI, in collaboration with the Jigawa State Government.
The lecture series is scheduled to commence on Saturday, February 21, 2026, corresponding with the fifth day of Ramadan, at the NUJ Secretariat. Organisers say the initiative is designed to promote spiritual reflection, moral rejuvenation and social responsibility during the holy month.
In a statement sent to News Point Nigeria on Tuesday, and signed by the Acting Secretary of the NUJ Jigawa State Council, Comrade Aminu Umar Shuwajo, the union described the lecture as a platform for meaningful engagement on societal values and collective growth.
According to the statement, the event seeks to strengthen unity among political leaders, the media community and the wider public, while encouraging discussions anchored on cooperation, ethical responsibility and mutual understanding.
The NUJ noted that Ramadan provides a unique opportunity for introspection and community building, adding that the lecture series would serve as a bridge between faith-based guidance and professional responsibility, particularly within the media sector.
As part of the maiden edition, respected Islamic scholars from across Jigawa State have been invited to deliver lectures on topical issues.
Associate Professor Abubakar Sani Birnin Kudu is scheduled to present a lecture on “The Danger of Fake News and the Positive Aspects of Being a Journalist.” The topic is expected to address misinformation, media ethics and the critical role of journalists in shaping public discourse.
The lecture will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the NUJ Secretariat.
The Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim, is expected to chair the occasion, underscoring the state government’s support for the initiative.
Beyond the lecture series, the NUJ Jigawa State Council has also announced a humanitarian outreach programme as part of its Ramadan activities.
The union will donate food items and cash assistance to families of deceased and retired NUJ members. The charitable distribution is scheduled for Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the NUJ Secretariat, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The initiative, according to the statement, reflects the union’s commitment to solidarity and welfare support for its members and their families, particularly during the sacred month of Ramadan.
The NUJ has invited members of the media, stakeholders and the general public to actively participate in both the lecture and the charitable outreach.
Organisers say the twin events are aimed at strengthening communal bonds, reinforcing shared values and encouraging responsible journalism guided by ethical and moral principles.
