NIGERIAN billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola, has revealed how his daughter, Temi Otedola, convinced him to acquire not one, but two luxury mansions in Dubai in the build-up to her wedding with Afrobeat star, Mr Eazi.
News Point Nigeria reports that the wedding, which captured global attention, was celebrated in Monaco, Dubai, and Iceland, making headlines for its opulence and style. But behind the glamour lies a touching father-daughter story of persuasion and indulgence.
Speaking during the wedding festivities, Otedola disclosed that despite being courted by Dubai real estate agents for over 15 years, he had never been tempted to purchase property in the Emirati city — until his daughter intervened.
“There is this guy that has been showing me properties in Dubai for the last 15 years. I never bought. I am not exaggerating at least 70 properties, and I never bought,” Otedola said.
The turning point came during a family sightseeing trip to Dubai, when the family toured a mansion that would later host Temi’s engagement ceremony.
“We saw this beautiful house where we had the engagement, and Temi said to me, ‘Papa, you know I can have my engagement ceremony in this house, why don’t you buy it?’ She does not talk much, but when she does, it is deep,” the billionaire recounted.
At first, Otedola wrestled with the thought of spending so much money on the property, but later had a change of heart.
“Something struck me that, common Femi, money you spend is not yours. Life is for the living. I called up the agent and said I would buy the house, so I did.”
Just months later, another opportunity arose when the same agent contacted him about a new house on the same street. Otedola initially showed little interest, but once again Temi’s playful suggestion swayed him.
“I went there, I looked at it, it was a beautiful house but I already had one. Then Temi came to visit, and I told her about it.
She said, ‘Papa, you know, this house would be nice for our after party?’ I thought she was being unserious. But to make her happy, I bought it on the same street. So we had the after party there.”
The two properties ultimately became central venues for the Otedola-Eazi wedding celebrations, symbolizing not just wealth and extravagance, but also the cherished bond between a father and his daughter.
