THE Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, was on Thursday rushed to a hospital in Yenagoa after collapsing at the Government House, sparking concern across the state’s political circles.
News Point Nigeria reports that the incident reportedly occurred in the afternoon while the deputy governor was attending to official duties.
Sources within the Government House described the situation as “serious,” noting that frantic efforts were made to stabilize him before he was moved for medical treatment.
Multiple government insiders said Ewhrudjakpo was taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yenagoa for urgent attention.
However, this could not be independently verified, as the Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Ben Akpedi, did not respond to several calls made to him on Thursday.
When reached for confirmation, the deputy governor’s media aide, Doubara Atasi, confirmed the collapse but declined to give further details. His response was brief: “Yes,” he said before abruptly ending the call.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of Ewhrudjakpo’s collapse remains unknown, with officials staying silent on whether he had been battling any health condition prior to Thursday’s incident.
The Bayelsa State Government has yet to issue an official statement, heightening public anxiety as residents await clarification on the deputy governor’s condition.
