THE wedding ceremony of Dr. Chikamkpa Amaechi and Anita Nwabueze, son and daughter-in-law of Nigeria’s former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, attracted a roll call of Nigeria’s political heavyweights, past leaders, and dignitaries in Abuja.
News Point Nigeria reports that among those present at the church wedding were former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan, and Dolapo Osinbajo, wife of the former Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
Other eminent personalities in attendance included former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, former Senate President and current National Chairman of the African Democratic Party, Senator David Mark, as well as former Plateau State Governor, Senator Solomon Lalong.
The wedding mass was held at St. Gabriel Chaplaincy, Catholic Secretariat, Abuja, where the couple was joined in holy matrimony by Reverend Father Steve Dedua, former Chaplain of Rivers State House Parish.
In his sermon, Rev. Fr. Dedua admonished the couple to anchor their marriage on faith, patience, and the guidance of God.
He said: “Chikamkpa and Anita are before God as a demonstration of His faithfulness; as such, God will continue to uphold their union. From the beginning, God made them male and female.
“In other words, in making them male and female, God decided that they should come and become one. What God has joined together, let no man or woman put asunder.”
While lamenting the rising global divorce rates, the priest cited 2023 statistics showing that Nigeria ranked 11th among 26 nations with the highest divorce rates worldwide.
He, however, expressed confidence that the new couple would not become part of that statistic, urging them to depend on God in all circumstances.
Speaking after the service, the groom’s father, Rotimi Amaechi, expressed deep happiness at the union and offered prayers for the couple’s future.
“My prayer to them is that they will be happy. They will find happiness, and they will find God’s love. And they will have many children,” he said with joy.
The groom’s mother, Judith Amaechi, also shared her excitement, emphasizing that the most important thing was the couple’s joy.
“The most important thing is their happiness. Their happiness is the most important thing. So I wish them well,” she said.
The ceremony was a colorful celebration of love, faith, and family, reflecting the high esteem in which the Amaechi family is held and underscoring the unity that transcends Nigeria’s political divides.
