THE Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with the attack on the Emir’s palace at Kofar Kudu in the Kano metropolis on Sunday.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the arrest of the suspects to News Point Nigeria via a WhatsApp message Wednesday morning.
“Yes, the command has arrested four suspects and they are now in police custody as an investigation is still ongoing,” he wrote.
According to him, the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, had already set up a panel to investigate the altercation that happened between supporters of the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji
Aminu Ado Bayero and the 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sañusi II.
Haruna, who did not give further details on the arrest, said, “Four suspects have been apprehended in connection with the Sunday clash.
This newspaper had earlier reported that a bloody clash was averted on Sunday when some supporters of both the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero and the 16th Emir, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, allegedly clashed at the Kofar-Kudu area in Kano metropolis.
The incident happened when some miscreants believed to be supporters of Emir Sanusi blocked the road to prevent Emir Bayero from passing through the Kofar-Kudu, while returning to the Nassarawa mini-palace after he paid a condolence visit to the family of the late business mogul, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata.
Following the incident, some palace guards were allegedly injured while some vehicles belonging to the policemen guarding the palace were smashed and the main gate of the palace was destroyed.
This newspaper could not independently verify these claims, though.
According to an eyewitness, the quick intervention of the police prevented the incident from degenerating into a full-blown bloody clash.
