Police Arrest Popular TikToker, Peller For Attempted Suicide

THE Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained popular TikTok streamer Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following a viral video showing him driving and threatening to crash his car while livestreaming.

His action resulted in a road crash on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos.

In a statement sent to News Point Nigeria on Wednesday and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, the force said the arrest followed the circulation of a video recorded on Sunday, in which the 20-year-old content creator was seen driving while visibly distressed, eventually crashing his vehicle.

According to the police, the suspect’s actions amounted to an alleged attempt to commit suicide and posed a grave danger to other road users.

“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained, for further investigation, Habeeb Hamzat, also known as ‘Peller’, subsequent to a viral video that surfaced online on Sunday, December 14, 2025, in which he was seen driving recklessly, leading to a dangerous road crash while the incident was being live-streamed,” the statement read in part.

“His action constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangered the lives of other innocent road users,” it added.

The police disclosed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for detailed investigation, adding that the outcome would be made public and the suspect charged before a court of competent jurisdiction in line with the law.

The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, also issued a warning to social media influencers and the public against using online platforms to promote or engage in dangerous conduct.

“Such lawlessness will not be tolerated, and the full weight of the law will be applied to any offender,” the statement added, while urging motorists to comply strictly with traffic regulations.

Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has ordered the prosecution of the TikToker for multiple traffic violations.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC said its Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, directed the Lagos State Sector Commander to commence prosecution for his action, use of a mobile phone while driving.

Mohammed expressed concern over what he described as a growing trend of dangerous road use by celebrities and content creators seeking online attention.

“This incident, which could have resulted in loss of lives, serves as a grim reminder that fame does not confer immunity from the law, nor does it excuse dangerous behaviour on public roads,” he said.

The FRSC stressed that public roads are not studios or streaming platforms and warned that it would not hesitate to apply the law to any offender, regardless of social status.

It also called on entertainment bodies and influencer networks to promote responsible behaviour, noting the influence public figures wield over young people.

The crash occurred on Sunday, December 14, while Peller was livestreaming. The impact triggered the vehicle’s airbags and attracted the intervention of bystanders.

He was hospitalised, although his medical condition has not been officially disclosed. The incident has continued to generate public debate.

Peller bought the 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV on December 6, 2025, a purchase he publicly announced on social media.

Before the crash Peller’s relationship with fellow content creator Jarvis reportedly became strained due to differing relationship goals.

Jarvis cited interference in her personal and professional life and a rejected “relationship contract” as key issues. She confirmed the breakup, saying it was “over for now” and was necessary for both their healing.
