THE Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of three suspected members of the notorious Lakurawa terror group in a joint security operation in Gorun Yamma village, Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday sent to News Point Nigeria, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said the coordinated operation followed a distress call that armed bandits had invaded the community.
According to him, a combined team of policemen and local vigilantes swiftly mobilised to the scene and engaged the assailants in a prolonged gun duel that lasted several hours.
At the end of the exchange, three members of the terror group were neutralised, while others escaped into nearby forests with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
“On receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Kamba Division, SP Mohd Bello Lawal, immediately mobilised a combined team of policemen and vigilantes to the scene.
“They engaged the criminals in a fierce battle, where three of them were killed,” the statement read in part.
The police further disclosed that an unregistered red Honda motorcycle, commonly referred to as ‘Boko Haram’ in local parlance was recovered from the fleeing terrorists.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the Divisional Police Officer, his men, and the vigilantes for their bravery, diligence, and quick response.
He urged them to sustain the synergy and community partnership that made the operation successful, stressing the importance of consistency in combating the emerging threat of the Lakurawa group and other violent crimes across the state.
The CP reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilante groups, would not relent until all criminal elements are flushed out of Kebbi State.
