THE Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) has commended Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his administration’s decision to revert Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education back to its original status as a College of Education.
News Point Nigeria reports that the commendation came during the Union’s 32nd Executive Council Meeting, held on Friday, October 3, 2025, where the governor was also honored with a Special Recognition Award for his contributions to educational development in the state.
According to the Union’s North-West Secretary, Dr. Hussaini Yahaya, who presented the award on behalf of COEASU, the governor’s commitment to reviving, reforming, and repositioning the education sector has been “nothing short of amazing.”
“This recognition is not only about the reversion of Sa’adatu Rimi to a College of Education,” Dr. Yahaya said. “It is about the governor’s broader vision of transforming education in Kano and ensuring that both students and staff benefit from a functional, well-structured learning environment.”
In addition to the COEASU award, Governor Yusuf was also decorated with several other prestigious honors presented by different organizations in appreciation of his developmental strides.
The Joint Negotiation Council (JNC) conferred on him an award, presented through the Chief of Staff, Dr. Suleiman Wali Sani.
The governor also received the Education Merit Award from the Students of Army Day Secondary School (Boys), Bukavu Barracks, during their pre-Independence lecture.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, presented an Award of Excellence on behalf of the Local Government Information Officers Forum of Nigeria (LGIOFN) at its 2025 National Conference.
The Federation of Cooperative Societies also honored the governor with a merit award, presented by the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi.
Finally, the African Public Relations Association (APRA) conferred an award on Governor Yusuf, presented by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad, in a statement issued late On Friday sent to News Point Nigeria, Kano, emphasized that the multiple awards symbolize the growing recognition of Governor Yusuf’s people-oriented policies.
“His Excellency has placed education at the center of his administration’s development agenda,” Muhammad noted. “These awards reflect the appreciation of diverse stakeholders for his unwavering commitment to human capital development and inclusive governance.”
The recognition underscores the governor’s rising profile as a reformist leader and consolidates his administration’s efforts to ensure Kano remains a hub for educational advancement in Northern Nigeria.
