NASARAWA West lawmaker, Senator Ahmed Wadada, has officially resigned his membership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), citing prolonged internal crises within the party.
The development was contained in a resignation letter addressed to the Chairman of the SDP in Tudun Kofa Ward, Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, and sighted by News Point Nigeria on Thursday.
The letter, titled “Notification of Resignation from the Social Democratic Party (SDP)”, indicated that Wadada’s decision took effect immediately.
In the letter, the Senator stated: “I am writing to inform you of my decision to resign as a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), effective immediately.
“This decision has not been taken lightly, but I feel compelled to do so due to the lingering internal crisis that has plagued our party for some time.
“As you are aware, these internal conflicts have led to serious division and litigation within the party.
“I appreciate the opportunities given to me while being a member of the SDP and am grateful for the experiences and relationships built.
“However, I feel it is time for me to move on and explore new avenues.”
Wadada’s exit marks a significant setback for the SDP in Nasarawa State, where he has been one of the party’s most prominent political figures.
His resignation also comes at a time when the party has been battling internal wrangling and legal disputes at both state and national levels.
As of the time of filing this report, Senator Wadada has not disclosed his future political plans or whether he will be joining another political party.
The SDP leadership in Nasarawa is yet to issue an official response to the resignation.
