Confirming the incident to journalists on Saturday at his residence located in the school premises, proprietor of the Qur’anic School, Malam Dan-Umma, said the seven pupils died on the spot while another one was hospitalised as a result injuries from the accident.

He revealed that the burrow pit collapsed and buried the victims while collecting laterite sands.

“I assigned them to go on top of the hill near the school to excavate clay and gravels to mend the holes inside their rooms against the upcoming flood. In the process, I was told a heavy chunk of the laterite fell on them.

“I immediately rushed to the scene of the incident where I confirmed seven of them were dead and one other who survived was rushed to the hospital in Birnin Kebbi,” he stated.

Malam Dan-Umma further said the corpses of the seven deceased pupils had been taken to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi before taking them to their parents for burial.

While lamenting the unfortunate incident, Malam Dan-Umma prayed to Allah (SWA) to grant the deceased Aljannat Firdausi.

    Happy Birthday

An indigene of the area, who is also the Special Adviser to Governor Nasir Idris of Kebi State on Pilgrimage Affairs, Zayyanu Sanka, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and prayed to Allah to forgive the sins of the deceased.

He said the State government will look into the possibility of banning the excavation of clay, soil and gravels on top of such hills as a deliberate measure to tackle future reoccurrence of the incident.
