COMMITTEE of Corner Shop Owners At Federal Housing Estate, Sharada, Kano State has petitioned the State Governor, Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Dije Aboki over an unlawful attempt to occupy their plots by some persons posing as staff of Federal Housing Authority.
The Committee, in a petition signed by it’s Chairman, Alhaji Sani Maikusa, and the Secretary, Alhaji Hafiz Mato, pleaded with the government and stakeholders “to stop this dangerous experiment by the new management of FHA”.
According to the acknowledged copies made available to News Point Nigeria on Monday, the arrowhead of the confiscation move is one Architect Suleiman, who was said to be an in-law to former Kano governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, planning to revoke the lands to allegedly regrant them to Mrs Hafsat Ganduje, wife of the former governor.
The petition, titled; ‘Complaint Against An Attempt To Cause Communal Disturbances, Forcefully And Fraudulent Occupation Of Our Plots Of Lands And Disobedience To A Lawful Court Order By A GroupOf Fraudsters And Thieves Posing As Staff Of Federal Housing Authority’ and dated 12th April, 2024, reads in part:
“We, the undersigned are holders of the title to various plots/parcels of land designated as corner shops and granted by the Federal Housing Authority at Sharada Federal Housing Estate, Kano State and have remained in uninterrupted possession for over 20 years without any adverse claim by a third party or parties.
“Our various documents of title are still pending, valid and subsisting for 60 years and 99 years as the case may be having paid all the initial processing fees and consequently awaiting the regularization and presentation to us of the approved building plan/permit to commence development.
“Recently, some tribal chauvinistic Nigerians singled out the corner shops in Kano for confiscation due to greed and their desperation to cover our titles even though we have made various payments but some bad Eva’s in the FHA have failed, neglected or refused to do the needful despite all demands and entreaties and as of recent attempts are made to deprive us of our titles and re-Grant title documents to political allies.
“It is sad that despite a valid and subsisting order of Kano High Court by Hon Justice Abdu Maiwada Abubakar in suit No. K/137/2023 restraining all the defendants (Hon Minister of Works and Housing; Federal Housing Authority, Bureau for Land Management, KANGIS, KNUPDA, Architect Suleiman, Others) from forcefully taking over our lands, some shameless and greedy persons have been duping unsuspecting buyers be reselling the same land to them and have engaged some questionable elements to re-draw new beacons on our lands”, the petition added.
All efforts to reach the FHA spokesperson, Keneth Chigelu has proved abortive as calls and text messages were not responded to as at the time of filing this report.
