THE Kaduna State Police Command has insisted that former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and six senior members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) must appear in person before investigators to answer questions relating to allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement, mischief, and causing grievous hurt.
Spokesperson of the Command, Mansir Hassan, told this newspaper on Tuesday that the police would not accept legal representatives or proxies in place of the individuals invited, stressing that the summons was directed at El-Rufai and the specific ADC leaders named.
It will be recalled that the Kaduna Police Command had earlier invited the former governor and other party leaders to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID). However, rather than showing up in person, the invited individuals reportedly sent lawyers and the ADC chairman to represent them.
Hassan confirmed this development, noting that the Command categorically informed the legal team that the invitation must be honoured personally.
He said: “Former Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai and others did not come but they sent their lawyers and party chairman as their representatives. We told their lawyers and their party chairman that all the people invited, including the former governor, are to appear in person and not through representatives.”
The police spokesperson explained that the Command is still awaiting compliance with the summons, adding that any further decision on enforcement will be communicated.
“For now, we are waiting for them to honour their earlier invitation,” Hassan stated, while pledging that the police will disclose their next line of action if the individuals fail to present themselves.
El-Rufai and the ADC leaders are being investigated over allegations of: criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief and causing grievous hurt
The summons has already sparked political and legal tension in Kaduna State, given El-Rufai’s prominence as an influential political figure and the ADC’s growing profile in state politics.
For now, the Kaduna State Police Command maintains its firm stance: El-Rufai and the six ADC leaders must appear in person, no exceptions.
