SUPER Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, has returned to team training with Turkish champions Galatasaray, sparking excitement among fans and teammates after weeks on the sidelines with an ankle injury.
News Point Nigeria Sports reports that the 26-year-old striker resumed partial training on Sunday at the club’s Rams Park facilities, joining his teammates in several drills while also engaging in personalized exercises to aid his recovery.
His return comes just as Galatasaray prepare for a critical run of fixtures in both the Turkish Super Lig and the UEFA Champions League.
Osimhen’s injury woes began on 6 September, when he limped off in the 35th minute of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda following a challenge from Claude Niyomugabo.
What initially appeared to be a minor knock proved more serious, forcing him out of Galatasaray’s Super Lig victory over Eyupspor and the club’s humiliating 5-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in their Champions League opener.
Reports from Ajansspor confirmed that while Osimhen has made encouraging progress, the club’s medical team and coaching staff are taking a cautious approach to ensure he fully regains match fitness.
Head coach Okan Buruk, speaking ahead of the Frankfurt clash, admitted uncertainty over Osimhen’s immediate availability.
“Osimhen’s hurt, you know. He didn’t play in the league game, so we had the hope of at least getting this game up,” Buruk said.
“He tried in practice for the last two days, but the feedback from him is not enough to play right now. The health of our players is very important to us.”
Galatasaray had initially penciled in 30 September as a possible return date for Osimhen, with hopes he could be available for their blockbuster Champions League group stage clash against Liverpool.
The Nigerian striker, on loan from Napoli, made an instant impact upon his arrival this summer, scoring two goals in three league appearances before his setback.
His return is widely expected to add firepower to Galatasaray’s frontline as they aim to defend their domestic crown and make a statement in Europe.
For both Galatasaray and the Super Eagles, Osimhen’s recovery is seen as crucial. The striker remains one of Africa’s most lethal forwards, and his availability could determine Galatasaray’s fortunes in the coming weeks.
