MINISTER of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the six area council chairmen will meet with the joint unions labour leaders of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), and National Association of Nurses And Health Workers (NANAW) in Abuja, on Thursday, over lingering strike due to the non-payment of their members arrears and other entitlement.
A member of the executive of union, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the meeting while speaking with our reporter through telephone on Tuesday.
He said a letter from the minister’s office was conveyed to each of the union leaders through the state council of the NLC where the union area expected to meet with the minister and the six area council chairmen to deliberate on how end the strike action.
“Yes, it was on Monday, a letter was conveyed to each of the union leaders where they are expected to meet with the FCT minister Nyesom Wike and the six area council in Abuja, in Thursday, this week to deliberate over the lingering strike by the teachers, area council workers and health workers,” he said.
The chairman of the FCT wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Comrade Abdullahi Mohammed Shafas, also confirmed the meeting.
“It is true, we will be meeting with the minister and the six area council chairmen on Thursday, but I can’t say much for now until after the meeting,” he said.
Recall that primary school teachers, area council workers as well as health workers have been on strike over three months.
