NIGERIA’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has been recognised by TIME Magazine as one of the 100 most influential personalities in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for 2025, joining the ranks of global tech giants such as Elon Musk and Sam Altman.
The recognition, according to a statement issued by the Minister’s media office in Abuja made available to News Point Nigeria, underscores Tijani’s growing international profile as a driver of inclusive and sustainable AI development, placing Nigeria at the heart of global conversations about the future of technology.
TIME explained that the 2025 list was compiled after extensive research by its editors and reporters, who examined the biggest stories shaping AI in the past year and consulted industry experts and thought leaders for recommendations.
The result is a curated roster of 100 leaders, innovators, shapers, and thinkers whose work is shaping the direction and ethical deployment of Artificial Intelligence.
The statement highlighted Tijani’s leading role in developing Nigeria’s National AI Strategy (NAIS) — a blueprint co-created with more than 120 Nigerian AI experts worldwide to ensure responsible development and use of the technology.
It further noted Nigeria’s ongoing research and demonstration initiatives showcasing AI’s potential in key sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and financial inclusion.
Through partnerships with Google, the Gates Foundation, and other global institutions, Nigeria has been working to scale mature AI solutions from local innovators, providing mentorship, resources, and support to turn promising ideas into impactful applications.
Reacting to the global recognition, Tijani described his inclusion in TIME’s list as both an honour and validation of Nigeria’s efforts to position itself as a global leader in responsible AI adoption.
“This recognition from TIME further validates our belief that Nigeria can stand as a global leader in the responsible and inclusive deployment of AI for increased productivity,” Tijani said.
“As we continue on this journey, my commitment remains clear: to ensure AI not only drives innovation, but also contributes to building a $1 trillion economy as envisioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
