PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated 39-year-old electrical engineer and administrator, Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat, as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
Ramat, a former chairman of Ungogo local govt in Kano, holds a PhD in Strategic Management alongside other qualifications, is expected to bring a blend of technical expertise and strategic leadership to the critical power sector regulator.
The President also nominated Mr. Abubakar Yusuf as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services at the Commission.
All nominations are subject to confirmation by the Senate, as required by law.
In order to prevent a leadership vacuum in NERC, President Tinubu has directed Engr. Ramat to immediately assume office in an acting capacity, pending his screening and confirmation by the Senate.
The President tasked the new appointees with delivering on the administration’s vision for a revitalised power sector, urging them to deploy their experience and skills to serve the nation effectively.
“President Tinubu urged the new appointees to use their knowledge and experience to discharge their functions and work assiduously to advance the administration’s power sector vision,” the statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, read in part.
The nomination comes amid ongoing reforms aimed at improving electricity generation, transmission, and distribution in Nigeria.
