Troops Uncover Boko Haram Underground Fuel Dump, Medical Stores In Borno

TROOPS of the Joint Task Force North-East under Operation Hadin Kai have recorded another major breakthrough in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign with the discovery of an underground Boko Haram logistics storage facility stocked with fuel, medical supplies and other critical materials in Borno State.

    RAMADAN KAREEM

The discovery followed a series of coordinated, intelligence-led offensives carried out on Sunday, January 18, 2026, across terrorist enclaves in Chilaria, Garin Faruk and Abirma, all located within the notorious Timbuktu Triangle axis of the state.

The Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Uba Sani, disclosed this in a statement sent to News Point Nigeria on Monday, describing the operation as part of Operation Desert Sanity, aimed at dismantling the remaining logistical and operational networks of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters.

According to Sani, the troops advanced from their harbour areas and conducted deliberate clearance operations based on actionable intelligence, leading to the destruction of several terrorist camps and the recovery of arms, equipment and supplies crucial to insurgent operations.

“Troops of the Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation Hadin Kai, have recorded further operational successes in the ongoing Operation Desert Sanity, destroying multiple terrorist camps, recovering arms and equipment, and repelling coordinated attacks by the insurgents in the Timbuktu Triangle,” the statement read.

He explained that the operation was supported by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, which provided persistent Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) throughout the advance.

“The air-ground synergy enabled real-time tracking of terrorist movements, deterred adversary reinforcement, and enhanced the precision and confidence of ground operations,” Sani said.

During the clearance of the enclaves, troops recovered several items of military and logistical significance, including Baofeng radios, mobile phones, five AK-47 magazines, rounds of 7.62×39mm special ammunition and 7.62mm NATO belted ammunition.

Other items recovered include Boko Haram and ISWAP flags, links of 12.7×108mm ammunition, diesel-powered grinding machines, several bags of grains, a pick-up truck, and large quantities of medical supplies.

Of particular significance was the discovery of an underground logistics storage facility and a petroleum, oil and lubricant dump, believed to have been used by the terrorists to sustain their fighters and support prolonged operations in the area.

“These recoveries further degraded the operational and logistical capacity of the terrorists,” Sani noted.

However, he revealed that during the operation, the advancing troops came under armed drone attacks launched by the terrorists around midday.

“Despite this, the troops maintained momentum and continued the offensives. A second drone attack attempted in the evening was also decisively repelled, forcing the terrorists to withdraw and reaffirming the troops’ dominance of the area,” he said.

Sani added that troop morale remains high despite sustained engagements, while fighting efficiency continues to be maintained.

“The general security situation in the area is assessed as calm but unpredictable, with troops remaining vigilant and at a high state of readiness,” he stated.

He concluded by reaffirming the commitment of the military high command to sustaining the offensive against insurgent groups, stressing that troops remain resolute in their mission to eliminate terrorist threats, protect civilians and restore lasting peace and stability to Nigeria’s North-East.
