PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the recall of Mr. Salihu Abdullahi Dembos, the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), and Mr. Ayo Adewuyi, the Executive Director of News, reversing earlier management changes at the nation’s flagship television station.
News Point Nigeria reports that Dembos, who was first appointed in October 2023, had briefly vacated his position following recent leadership adjustments within the state-owned broadcaster two weeks ago.
With the President’s directive, he is to resume office and continue his three-year tenure, which is expected to run until 2026.
Similarly, Adewuyi, who was appointed as NTA’s Executive Director of News in 2024, has been directed to return to his post to serve out his tenure, which will end in 2027.
The decision effectively nullifies the appointments of a new Director-General, Executive Director of News, Executive Director of Marketing, and Managing Director of NTA Enterprises, which had been announced as part of the earlier shake-up.
Announcing the development, Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said the move underscores the President’s commitment to ensuring stability and continuity at the nation’s foremost public broadcasting network.
With this directive, the presidency has reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of Dembos and Adewuyi while restoring clarity to the management structure of the NTA.
Recall President Tinubu had on August 22 appointed Rotimi Pedro to lead a newly reconstituted leadership at the NTA.
