A VETERINARY doctor, Bello Lawan, has been reportedly shot and injured and his wife kidnapped in Bagama community on the outskirts of Mpape town in Bwari Area Council of the FCT.
This newspaper learnt that three members of his family, including his son, who took a ransom of N13.5m, as well as foodstuff and drugs, were also held by the kidnappers.
A resident, Daniel Azaki, described Bello as a philanthropist who assisted many with his veterinary services, as well as in his medical clinic and pharmacy, all located in Bagama.
Bello, a converted Christian Fulani man, was said to have endeared himself to his fellow Fulani kinsmen in the Mpape axis with his services on their cattle and other animals which made many of them to convert to Christianity.
Hassan Dahiru, a neighbor, said, “The attackers arrived a few minutes after the doctor had returned from work in Mpape where he usually spends his day. They entered his compound where I noticed a kind of struggle and thereafter gunshots. I immediately moved to a place within my compound and hid myself.
“I later learnt that after a kind of squabble with the kidnappers, he attempted to flee and that was when the gunmen shot him severally.”
Our correspondent further learnt that Bello was rushed to the Maitama General Hospital, Abuja, before being referred to the National Hospital, Abuja.
His residence in the village was deserted when City & Crime visited at the weekend and efforts to speak with his son proved abortive.
Similarly, there was no response from the FCT Police Command on the incident.
