    WAEC Releases 2024 Results, 34,878 Obtained Five Credit-Passes With English, Maths

    THE West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), private candidates, 2024-second series, with 34,878 obtaining credit and above in a minimum of five subjects including English and Mathematics.

    This was made known on Sunday, February 16 through the council’s official X handle, @waecnigeria, “The West African Examination Council (WAEC), Nigeria wishes to announce to candidates, stakeholders and the general public that the results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates, 2024-second series, has been released.”

    The council explained that 43,923 candidates (68 percent) obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects with or without English Language and Mathematics, 34,878 (54 percent) had credit and above in a minimum of five subjects including English and Mathematics.

    WAEC further revealed that out of the 65,023 candidates that sat the examination, 31,504 (48 percent) were males, while 33,519 (52 percent) were females.

    “Of the number, 16,886 candidates (48 percent) were males, while 17,992 candidates (52 percent) were females.”

    A total of 62,354 candidates (96 percent) have their results fully processed and released, while 2,669 candidates (four percent) have a few of their subjects still being processed due to some errors traceable to them.

    Meanwhile, the council explained that 2,577 candidates’ results (3.96 percent) were withheld in connection with various allegations of examination malpractice.

    Recall that WAEC had earlier announced that the WASSCE for private candidates, 2024-second series would be conducted in two modes, for the first time in line with emerging best practices and the continuous quest for excellence.

    “The examination diet was conducted in these two modes, the paper and pen option, and the computer-based hybrid mode, and candidates sat the examination based on the option they chose during registration,” the council explained.

    According to WAEC, the examination took place in Nigeria between Friday, October 23, and Friday, December 20, 2024.

    The coordination of examiners and marking of candidates’ scripts were carried out at five marking venues in Lagos, Ibadan, Benin, Enugu, and Kaduna from Wednesday, January 15, to Thursday, February 4, 2025.

    “A total of 3,327 examiners participated, 68,342 candidates (20 percent) decrease compared to 2023 entry figure entered for the examination, while 65, 023 candidates sat the examination at 5,067 centres spread across the nooks and crannies of the country.

    “157 candidates with varying degrees of Special Needs were registered,” WAEC stated.
