THE President of AA Zaura Foundation International, Abdulkarim Abdulsalam Zaura, has reiterated his organisation’s resolve to combat the menace of Daba in Kano, describing it as a threat to youth dignity and societal stability.
Zaura, who spoke on Sunday at Bayero University Kano (BUK) during a stakeholder strategic engagement with the academic community, said the initiative forms part of a long journey of dialogue that began with direct interactions with Daba groups and later extended to scholars, teachers, security agencies, and business leaders.
“We started by sitting down with the affected youth themselves, the Daba group leaders across different zones of Kano.
“We listened with empathy, we sought to understand their motivations, frustrations, and aspirations,” he said.
Zaura noted that the foundation has already developed a solutions framework and strategic action plan on Daba which has been submitted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for consideration.
He stressed that the fight was not just about curbing violence but about restoring human dignity, reclaiming wasted potential, and rebuilding the moral fabric of communities.
The event featured academic presentations highlighting education and vocational skills as central to rehabilitating vulnerable youth.
A communiqué issued after the engagement called for a collective response involving parents, educators, religious leaders, security agencies, and government officials.
It warned that ignoring the menace would lead to more violence, destruction, and erosion of social cohesion.
Zaura pledged that his foundation would continue to pursue its anti-*Daba* mission “with innovation, persistence, and hope,” stressing that Kano youths are “not a burden but a potential solution waiting to be nurtured.”
