WHO Chief Slams Israel’s Killing Of 12 Paramedics In Lebanon Strike

THE UN’s World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has deplored the Israeli strike on a Lebanese civil defence centre where “at least 12 paramedics were killed”, saying such attacks “are becoming the new normal”.

It is reported that Israeli military attacked the town of Burj Rahha in southern Lebanon’s Tyre district, killing 12 paramedics and injuring seven other people, Lebanon 24 reports.

The paramedics’ death comes following two separate attacks on civil defence centres in Lebanon on Friday.

Foreign reports also confirm that at least 12 rescue workers were killed when Israeli forces bombed a civil defence centre in the village of Douris, south of the city of Baalbek, while four rescue workers were among six killed in a strike on Arabsalim in Nabatieh.

Lebanon’s Ministry of Health said that Israeli attacks killed 59 people and wounded another 182 across the country over the previous 24-hour reporting period.

Israeli carried out several air strikes on Beirut as a senior adviser to Iran’s supreme leader visited the Lebanese capital.

The visit comes a day after the US submitted a ceasefire proposal to end the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.

Israel’s genocide in Gaza has killed at least 43,764 Palestinians and wounded 103,490 since October 7, 2023. An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led attacks that day, and more than 200 were taken captive.

In Lebanon, at least 3,445 people have been killed and 14,599 wounded in Israeli attacks since the war on Gaza began.
