THE Young Progressives Party (YPP) has appointed Dr. Yakubu Uba Muhammad as the Interim State Chairman of the party in Kano State, placing him in charge of reorganising and strengthening the party’s structures across the state.
The appointment was conveyed in an official letter dated March 6, 2026 obtained by News Point Nigeria, signed by the party’s National Secretary, Vidiyeno H. Bamaiyi.
According to the letter, Dr. Mohammad’s appointment will last for an initial six-month probationary period, after which his performance will be assessed by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to determine whether he will continue in the role or if further decisions will be taken regarding the leadership of the state chapter.
The letter stated that the appointment was made in line with the provisions of the 2017 Constitution of the Young Progressives Party, as amended in 2022, and that the engagement takes immediate effect.
The party leadership charged the new interim chairman with the responsibility of revitalising the YPP in Kano by strengthening its internal structures and expanding its membership base.
Specifically, Dr. Mohammad was directed to work closely with the party’s North-West Zonal Chairman and the National Working Committee to organise a summit that would bring together both old and new members of the party in the state.
The summit, according to the directive, is expected to foster unity among party members while laying the groundwork for rebuilding the party’s organisational framework across Kano State.
The letter also emphasised the need for Dr. Mohammad to embark on a massive membership mobilisation drive during the probationary period to expand the party’s influence and support base in the state.
In addition, he was tasked with facilitating the establishment of a befitting state secretariat for the party in Kano, a move seen as part of efforts to strengthen the institutional presence of the YPP in the state.
The party leadership noted that the interim chairman’s duties, tenure, and operational guidelines would be governed strictly by the provisions of the party’s constitution.
He was also advised to familiarise himself with both the constitution and the party’s manifesto, which the letter described as essential guides for his leadership and decision-making while in office.
The appointment comes at a time when political parties across Nigeria are intensifying efforts to consolidate their grassroots structures ahead of future electoral contests.
Kano State, one of Nigeria’s most politically significant states due to its large voting population, remains a strategic battleground for political parties seeking to expand their national footprint.
The letter concluded with the national leadership congratulating Dr. Mohammad on his appointment and expressing confidence in his ability to advance the party’s ideals of “Unity, Service and Accountability.”
