THE governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal has stated that, the fortune of the state will change for good if he gets elected governor of the state.
Citing two stories from News Point Nigeria website, Lawal said it’s sad that the only time you see the name of Zamfara state in the headline of a newspaper is for something poor.
The guber candidate, who made the remark during a meeting with stakeholders and party members in Gusau over the weekend, cited the stories on Zamfara’s poor JAMB registration and the state’s hesitance on Constitution amendment submission published by News Point Nigeria.
The stories titled; ‘92,490 Registered JAMB Candidates: Lagos, Kaduna Lead, Abia, Zamfara, Others Bottom’ and ‘Constitution Amendment Bill: Zamfara, Kebbi, Taraba, Oyo, Five Other Northern States Hesitant’ were published by this newspaper same day, last Tuesday.
According to him, “Its pathetic and sad that the only time you see Zamfara state in a headline of a newspaper, its for something poor, and not just about insecurity issues but education, health and assembly matters.
“I was in a meeting a few days ago when I got a news headline alert of Zamfara state being at the bottom of JAMB registration figure and a few hours later, I received another headline that Zamfara is among the states hesitant to make a submission on the Constitution Amendment Bill.
“If there is one state that should be actively involved in the Constitution Amendment Bill, it should be Zamfara state, but everything has gone back in this state.
“I assure you that come March, if we get elected By Allah’s grace, all of this will be history'”, Lawal vowed.
Lawal then urged the electorate to do everything possible in making sure that they vote out the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during forthcoming presidential and governorship elections.
News Point Nigeria reported that, the JOINT Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it has registered 92,490 candidates to sit for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
JAMB added that, 67,328 candidates had also registered to sit for its mock examination. The board made this known in its Weekly Bulletin from the Office of the Registrar in Abuja.
A break down analysis of the registered candidates by News Point Nigeria delineates that, the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos and Kaduna states are currently leading with the most registered candidates.
According to the figures obtained, Lagos has 10, 974 registered candidates; Kaduna has 9,443 candidates and the FCT has 9,157 registered candidates.
The figures also revealed that states like Abia, Bauchi, Sokoto, Yobe and Zamfara currently have the lowest number of registered candidates.
A few hours later, News Point Nigeria also reported that, Zamfara, Kebbi, Taraba, Kwara, Oyo, Plateau, Gombe, Jigawa, Sokoto States’ Houses of Assembly were hesitant as twenty-seven other State assemblies forwarded their resolutions on 35 constitution amendment bills to the National Assembly.
The Senate has consequently directed the Clerk of the National Assembly to transmit the 35 constitution amendment bills that have so far met the requirement of the provision of section 9(2) of the constitution to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent.
The upper chamber also asked the remaining nine state Houses of Assembly that are yet to forward their resolutions on the constitution amendment bills to do so to fulfill their constitutionally imposed legislative obligation.
