THE National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has continued his engagements with opposition figures in Kano State, paying a courtesy visit to one of the state’s prominent political leaders, Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya.
News Point Nigeria reports that Senator Gaya, a founding member of the APC who later defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), received the APC chairman at his residence in Abuja.
In a post shared on his verified Facebook page, Professor Nentawe described the meeting as a warm discussion centred on the unity and progress of Kano State.
He said both leaders agreed on the importance of dialogue, peaceful coexistence and placing the interests of citizens above political differences.
“Democracy is strengthened not by division, but by our collective resolve to put the interests of the people above political differences,” Nentawe stated.
The visit came days after the APC national chairman held separate meetings with Senator Rufai Hanga, the only NDC senator representing Kano State and a close associate of the party’s Vice-Presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Those meetings were similarly presented as efforts towards promoting peace and unity, although political observers interpreted them as part of the APC’s broader strategy to engage opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Senator Gaya, a former Kano South representative in the Senate, left the APC a few months ago and joined Kwankwaso’s political movement in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) before later following him to the NDC.
The former senator, however, lost the party’s ticket to contest for a return to the Senate.
Although details of the meeting between Yilwatda and Gaya were not fully disclosed, political observers believe the engagement could signal possible political realignment ahead of 2027.
Some analysts suggested that Gaya may consider returning to the APC, despite uncertainty over whether he would secure the party’s ticket ahead of the next election cycle.
