APC Accuses Babachir Lawal Of Divisive Leadership, Invites ADC Members Back To Party Fold

    By Sani NuraOctober 24, 2025

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), particularly in Adamawa State, to reconsider their allegiance and return to the ruling party, accusing former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal, of promoting division and disunity within the ADC.

    BORNO PATRIOTS

The appeal was made in a statement titled “Notice of Advice and Extended Invitation” and signed by Dr. Umar D. Duhu, the Pioneer National Vice Chairman (North East) of the APC sent to News Point Nigeria.

Duhu said the call became necessary following what he described as “the destructive and sectional leadership style” of Babachir Lawal, which, according to him, has continued to undermine unity and progress within the ADC.

According to Duhu, Lawal’s leadership has been marred by “divisive tendencies, sentimental rhetoric, and an inclination toward ethnic and religious bias,” which he said are contrary to the spirit of inclusivity that sustains a vibrant political organization.

He alleged that Lawal’s actions have:

Fostered distrust and animosity among ADC members,

Encouraged favoritism and discrimination based on sectional interests,

Deepened tensions through inflammatory rhetoric, and

Failed to promote tolerance and mutual respect within the party.

“These tendencies have created an atmosphere of suspicion and hostility that undermines the unity and cohesion of the ADC,” the statement read.

Duhu also noted that the ADC under Lawal’s leadership has become increasingly unstable, with internal conflicts and leadership struggles weakening the party’s structure and credibility.

He claimed that communication breakdowns, factional struggles, and lack of trust have led to the exit of key stakeholders and diminished public confidence in the party’s direction.

“The ADC today lacks a unified vision, clear policy direction, and ideological coherence,” he said. “This has made it difficult for the party to present a compelling alternative to Nigerians or articulate a meaningful agenda for the future.”

He added that the internal wrangling has damaged the ADC’s reputation, leaving it fragmented and uncertain about its purpose in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Declaring that the APC has evolved into a stronger, more inclusive, and reform-driven party, Duhu extended a formal invitation to former members who defected to other parties to return.

He said the ruling party now operates on principles of internal democracy, meritocracy, transparency, and inclusiveness, adding that every member’s rights and interests are protected regardless of background or belief.

“The APC today is more capacious and accommodating. We have worked tirelessly to address the issues that once divided us,” Duhu said.

“We invite all who share our vision for a better Nigeria to return home. Our doors are open to everyone committed to the ideals of fairness, justice, and equality.”

Duhu reaffirmed the APC’s faith in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, describing it as courageous, reform-oriented, and committed to national progress.

He urged Nigerians to continue supporting the President’s vision, expressing confidence that the country would witness sustainable development under his leadership.

“We call on all Nigerians to sustain their faith in President Tinubu’s leadership. Together, we can build a nation that is inclusive, progressive, and prosperous,” he said.

Concluding his message, Duhu prayed for unity and divine guidance for Nigeria, urging citizens to work collectively for a brighter future.

“May the Almighty God continue to bless Nigeria and guide us on the path of progress and unity,” he concluded.
