A FORMER National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has returned to Nigeria after spending several weeks on vacation in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and is set to commence wide-ranging political consultations focused on developments in Kano State.
Ganduje arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Saturday at about 4:30pm. aboard an Emirates Airlines flight.
He later proceeded to Abuja, arriving at about 8:00pm, according to sources close to him.
Following his return, the former APC national chairman is expected to begin a series of consultations and meetings with party leaders, political stakeholders, and other influential figures as part of efforts to review the evolving political landscape in Kano State.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief of Staff, Muhammad Garba, Ganduje said the planned engagements are aimed at fostering inclusive dialogue and strengthening party cohesion amid recent political developments in the state.
The statement noted that Ganduje would also participate in the ongoing APC nationwide electronic membership registration (e-registration) exercise, a reform initiative he introduced during his tenure as the party’s national chairman.
According to the statement, the e-registration programme was designed to modernise the APC’s membership database, improve internal planning, and ensure that the party’s records are comprehensive, credible, and easily accessible across the country.
“The former governor remains committed to strengthening party structures and promoting inclusive dialogue in support of democratic consolidation within the APC, particularly in Kano State,” the statement said.
A party source told News Point Nigeria that Ganduje’s return and planned consultations come at a time of heightened political activity in Kano with strong indication of defection by the state Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf from the NNPP to the APC.
Ganduje, who governed Kano State for two terms between 2015 and 2023 before becoming APC national chairman, is regarded as a key political figure in the state, with significant influence within the party’s structure.
