FORMER Senate President of Nigeria, Ken Nnamani, has launched a blistering attack on Enugu opposition figure Uche Nnaji, describing him as a “certificate forger” and declaring him unfit to govern Enugu State.
News Point Nigeria reports that Nnamani made the remarks during an endorsement rally for Governor Peter Mbah and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu held in the Enugu East Senatorial Zone, where political leaders gathered to express support for the incumbent administration and its allies.
Speaking in strong terms, the former Senate President said individuals associated with forgery should not be entrusted with public office, insisting that integrity and character remain essential requirements for leadership.
“Stay away from forgery,” Nnamani warned, adding that wealth acquired through dishonest means does not translate into suitability for leadership. He referenced what he described as a notorious street in Lagos where fake certificates are allegedly procured, using it to illustrate the growing concern around credential fraud in public life.
He further argued that in earlier times, acts of dishonesty such as theft were met with public shame, but lamented that society today appears to treat forgery more lightly, despite its serious implications for governance and public trust.
According to him, greater scrutiny is needed for individuals seeking public office, particularly regarding their educational and professional records, adding that leadership should not be entrusted to those he described as lacking vision and integrity.
Nnamani also stated that individuals who have previously held federal positions and “disgraced the state,” as he put it, should not be allowed near government again, insisting that governance must be reserved for those with proven records of competence and accountability.
The former Senate President’s comments come amid renewed scrutiny of the academic and service credentials of Uche Nnaji, following multiple institutional denials of his claimed qualifications.
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has officially disowned the Bachelor of Science certificate presented by Nnaji, stating that he did not complete his studies at the institution and was never issued a degree certificate.
Similarly, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) had earlier informed investigators that the national service certificate being paraded by Nnaji could not be authenticated and was unknown to its records.
According to reports, the NYSC position followed a verification request linked to an ongoing investigation into the educational and service history of the former minister, including documents forwarded for authentication.
