THE Chief Medical Director of the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, Olawale Olakulehin, has announced the discharge of 31 of the 39 pupils rescued after their abduction from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, saying they have been certified medically fit and reunited with their families.
News Point Nigeria reports that Olakulehin disclosed that the hospital admitted 39 rescued children following their release from captivity, but noted that eight of them would remain under medical observation and treatment as part of efforts to ensure their full recovery.
The Chief Medical Director explained that the discharge of the 31 pupils marked another significant milestone in the rehabilitation process for the rescued victims, stressing that the remaining children would continue to receive the best possible medical care until they are certified fit to return home.
He assured parents and members of the public that the welfare of all the rescued children remains a top priority, adding that medical experts would continue to closely monitor their physical and psychological well-being as part of the post-rescue recovery programme.
The development came days after the teachers and pupils were abducted from schools in the local government area.
News Point Nigeria reports that Governor Seyi Makinde formally received the rescued victims on Monday and expressed appreciation to security personnel and all those who played roles in securing the release of the abductees.
Speaking at the event, the governor said the circumstances surrounding the incident were serious enough to warrant an independent investigation beyond Nigeria’s domestic institutions.
According to Makinde, an international probe would not be intended to discredit local institutions but would help strengthen public confidence, establish the full facts surrounding the incident and ensure accountability.
However, the Senate and the Presidency have faulted the governor’s call for an international investigation, insisting that Nigeria is a sovereign nation capable of handling such matters through its own institutions.
